Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTACIDS
Why this applies to Sodium Bicarbonate (OTC Drug)
Sodium Bicarbonate (OTC Drug) falls under ANTACIDS — the group Quassia interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: quassia is a strong bitter, and bitters are thought to nudge your stomach into making more acid and digestive juices. Sodium bicarbonate works the opposite way, neutralizing stomach acid to ease heartburn and indigestion. So in theory, if quassia bumps up acid production, it could slightly blunt how well your antacid quiets that burning feeling, meaning you might not get as much relief.
I want to be honest that this is a theoretical, anecdotal concern, not something well proven, and it's rated minor. It's unlikely to cause real trouble. If your heartburn isn't settling the way it usually does, just space the two apart and check in with your pharmacist or doctor.
