Torsemide falls under DIURETIC DRUGS — the group Quassia interacts with.

Overuse of quassia might compound diuretic-induced potassium loss. There is some concern that people taking quassia along with potassium depleting diuretics might have an increased risk for hypokalemia. Initiation of potassium supplementation or an increase in potassium supplement dose may be necessary for some patients.
Some diuretics that can deplete potassium include chlorothiazide (Diuril), chlorthalidone (Thalitone), furosemide (Lasix), and hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ, Hydrodiuril, Microzide), and others.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with torsemide. As a loop diuretic, one of its known effects is pushing potassium out of your body through your urine. That's just part of how this water pill works. Quassia, when used in larger or concentrated supplement amounts, has been thought to nudge potassium loss in the same direction. So the worry is that stacking the two could lower your potassium more than torsemide alone would.

I want to be honest about the evidence here: this is theoretical, based on how these things work rather than solid studies in people. Low potassium can cause muscle cramps, weakness, or an irregular heartbeat, so it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor, especially if you already take a potassium supplement. Don't change anything on your own.

What Is Torsemide Used For?

Brand names: Demadex, Soaanz

Torsemide tablets are used to treat edema — excess fluid buildup causing swelling — associated with heart failure, renal disease, or hepatic disease. Removing that extra fluid can relieve swelling and make breathing easier.

Torsemide tablets are also used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of serious cardiovascular events, including strokes and heart attacks. It can be used alone or alongside other blood pressure medications.
