Estradiol, Norgestimate falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES — the group Rabdosia Rubescens interacts with.

Rabdosia rubescens might increase levels of p-glycoprotein substrates. In vitro research shows that Rabdosia rubescens extract inhibits p-glycoprotein levels and activity. Drugs that might be affected include some chemotherapeutic agents (doxorubicin, etoposide, paclitaxel, vinblastine, vincristine, vindesine), antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole), protease inhibitors (amprenavir, indinavir, nelfinavir, saquinavir), H2 antagonists (cimetidine, ranitidine), some calcium channel blockers (diltiazem, verapamil), digoxin, corticosteroids, erythromycin, cisapride (Propulsid), fexofenadine (Allegra), cyclosporine, loperamide (Imodium), quinidine, and others.

Ortho-Prefest combines two hormones, estradiol and norgestimate, that your body can move around using a transporter pump called p-glycoprotein. Lab studies (test-tube only, not people) suggest Rabdosia rubescens may slow that pump down. In theory, that could let a little more hormone stay in your system, which might bump up the usual estrogen-related effects like breast tenderness, bloating, nausea, headaches, or mood changes.

Honestly, this is a weak, theoretical signal based only on lab work, so I wouldn't panic. We just don't have human data showing it really matters. Since this herb isn't well studied for safety, the smartest move is to run it by your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two.
