Vismodegib falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES — the group Rabdosia Rubescens interacts with.

Rabdosia rubescens might increase levels of p-glycoprotein substrates. In vitro research shows that Rabdosia rubescens extract inhibits p-glycoprotein levels and activity. Drugs that might be affected include some chemotherapeutic agents (doxorubicin, etoposide, paclitaxel, vinblastine, vincristine, vindesine), antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole), protease inhibitors (amprenavir, indinavir, nelfinavir, saquinavir), H2 antagonists (cimetidine, ranitidine), some calcium channel blockers (diltiazem, verapamil), digoxin, corticosteroids, erythromycin, cisapride (Propulsid), fexofenadine (Allegra), cyclosporine, loperamide (Imodium), quinidine, and others.

Here's the basic idea with Erivedge (vismodegib) and Rabdosia rubescens. Your body uses a kind of cellular pump called P-glycoprotein to help move vismodegib around and clear it out. In test-tube studies, Rabdosia rubescens seems to slow that pump down. If that happened in a person, more vismodegib could stay in the body, which can mean stronger effects and more side effects like muscle cramps, hair thinning, loss of taste, nausea, fatigue, and weight loss.

I want to be honest about the strength here: this is based only on lab research, not real patients, so we don't know if it truly matters in people. Still, with a cancer drug like this, I'd play it safe. Please check with your oncologist or pharmacist before combining the two.

Erivedge (vismodegib) is used to treat adults with basal cell carcinoma — the most common type of skin cancer — in two specific situations: when the cancer has spread to other parts of the body (metastatic basal cell carcinoma), or when it is locally advanced and has returned after surgery, or when surgery and radiation are not options.

It is not approved for use in children.
