These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Rauwolscine interacts with whole categories of medication. Acetaminophen, Dextromethorphan, Guaifenesin, Phenylephrine falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Rauwolscine in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Acetaminophen, Dextromethorphan, Guaifenesin, Phenylephrine
Acetaminophen, Dextromethorphan, Guaifenesin, Phenylephrine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Rauwolscine interacts with.
Rauwolscine is structurally related to yohimbine. In vitro research shows that yohimbine inhibits CYP2D6 enzyme activity.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Of the four ingredients in this cold and cough combo, the one that matters here is dextromethorphan (the cough suppressant). Your body clears it through a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. Rauwolscine is a cousin of yohimbine, and lab studies suggest yohimbine can slow that same enzyme down. So in theory, pairing the two could let dextromethorphan build up a bit more than usual, which might mean more drowsiness, dizziness, or feeling foggy or jittery.
I want to be honest that this is theoretical, based only on test-tube data, not real people, so the risk is likely small. Still, since rauwolscine itself can push up your heart rate and blood pressure, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist before combining them.

STIMULANT DRUGS
2 of 2Acetaminophen, Dextromethorphan, Guaifenesin, Phenylephrine also falls under STIMULANT DRUGS.
Rauwolscine has demonstrated stimulant effects in animal research.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the piece to focus on in your cold and cough combo: the phenylephrine. That's a decongestant that works by tightening blood vessels, which can nudge your blood pressure and heart rate up a bit. Rauwolscine is a stimulant too, so stacking the two could add together and push those effects further. You might feel jittery, notice a racing or pounding heartbeat, get a headache, feel anxious, or have trouble settling down. The acetaminophen, dextromethorphan, and guaifenesin pieces aren't really the concern here.
I'll be honest, this warning is theoretical and comes mainly from animal research, so it's not a strong, proven interaction. Still, if you have any heart issues, high blood pressure, or anxiety, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
