Theoretically, taking rauwolscine with seizure threshold lowering drugs might increase the risk of adverse convulsant effects.
In animal research, intraperitoneal rauwolscine lowered the seizure threshold level of the drug metrazol.

Here's the gist: brexpiprazole (Rexulti), like many antipsychotics, can slightly lower your seizure threshold, which is basically your brain's resistance to having a seizure. Rauwolscine, a stimulant found in some fat-burner and pre-workout supplements, may do the same thing. Stack the two together and, at least in theory, you could nudge that threshold down a little further and raise seizure risk.

I want to be honest about how strong this concern is though. The evidence here comes only from animal research, not people, so it's more of a caution than a proven problem. Still, rauwolscine can also bump up your heart rate, blood pressure, and anxiety, which isn't ideal alongside a medication for mood or psychosis. Please run this combo by your doctor or pharmacist before mixing them.

Theoretically, rauwolscine might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
Rauwolscine is structurally related to yohimbine. In vitro research shows that yohimbine inhibits CYP2D6 enzyme activity.

Here's the gist with Rexulti (brexpiprazole) and rauwolscine. Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to help clear brexpiprazole. Rauwolscine is a close cousin of yohimbine, and in lab studies yohimbine slows that same enzyme down. So in theory, taking rauwolscine alongside brexpiprazole could let the drug build up a bit more than expected.

If levels climbed, you might notice more of brexpiprazole's usual effects, like drowsiness, restlessness, dizziness, or weight changes. I'll be honest though, this is a theoretical concern based on lab data, not real patient reports, so I wouldn't panic. Just keep in mind that rauwolscine itself can raise heart rate and anxiety, which isn't ideal with an antipsychotic. Please run this combination by your pharmacist or doctor before mixing them.

Rauwolscine (alpha-yohimbine) is a stimulant alkaloid closely related to yohimbine that is marketed mainly in fat-burning and pre-workout supplements. Human evidence for its benefits is very limited, and it can raise heart rate and blood pressure and cause anxiety, so it should be used with caution and is not recommended for people with heart conditions, anxiety, or during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

What Is Brexpiprazole Used For?

Brand name: Rexulti

Brexpiprazole tablets are approved for two uses in adults: as an add-on (adjunctive) treatment alongside antidepressants for major depressive disorder (MDD), and as a treatment for schizophrenia. These uses apply to both the generic brexpiprazole tablets and Rexulti.

Rexulti has one additional approved use: treating agitation associated with dementia due to Alzheimer's disease in adults. Rexulti is also approved for schizophrenia in adolescents ages 13 and older. Note that Rexulti is not approved for dementia-related psychosis without agitation from Alzheimer's disease, and it is not meant to be used on an as-needed basis for Alzheimer's-related agitation.
