These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Rauwolscine interacts with whole categories of medication. Dextromethorphan, Pseudoephedrine, Triprolidine falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Rauwolscine in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Dextromethorphan, Pseudoephedrine, Triprolidine
Dextromethorphan, Pseudoephedrine, Triprolidine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Rauwolscine interacts with.
Rauwolscine is structurally related to yohimbine. In vitro research shows that yohimbine inhibits CYP2D6 enzyme activity.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to keep in mind with Actifed DM. One of its ingredients, dextromethorphan (the cough suppressant), is broken down by an enzyme called CYP2D6. Rauwolscine is a cousin of yohimbine, and lab studies suggest yohimbine can slow that enzyme down. If that happens, dextromethorphan could build up a bit higher than usual, which might bring on side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, or feeling restless or confused.
On top of that, both rauwolscine and the pseudoephedrine in this product are stimulants, so stacking them could push your heart rate and blood pressure up and leave you feeling jittery or anxious. This concern is mostly theoretical and based on lab data, not real-world cases, but if you have any heart issues or take this combo often, please check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

STIMULANT DRUGS
2 of 2Dextromethorphan, Pseudoephedrine, Triprolidine also falls under STIMULANT DRUGS.
Rauwolscine has demonstrated stimulant effects in animal research.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to keep an eye on with this combo. Actifed DM contains pseudoephedrine, which is itself a stimulant decongestant. Rauwolscine also acts like a stimulant by boosting your body's natural norepinephrine. Stacking two stimulant-type ingredients can add up, so you may notice more of pseudoephedrine's usual effects, things like a racing or pounding heart, higher blood pressure, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, or feeling wired and anxious.
I want to be honest about the evidence: this concern comes from animal and lab research, not solid human studies, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Still, if you have any heart issues, high blood pressure, or anxiety, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing these.
