Naratriptan falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Same interacts with.

Taking SAMe with serotonergic drugs might increase the risk of serotonin syndrome and other serotonergic side effects.
SAMe has serotonergic effects. Theoretically, combining serotonergic drugs with SAMe might increase the risk of serotonergic side effects, including serotonin syndrome and cerebral vasoconstrictive disorders. In one case report, SAMe 100 mg intramuscularly was given daily with clomipramine (Anafranil) 25 mg per day. When the clomipramine dose was increased to 75 mg per day the patient experienced serotonin syndrome about 48-72 hours later, requiring hospitalization.

Here's the thing to know about pairing SAM-e with naratriptan (Amerge): both nudge serotonin activity in your body. Naratriptan works by acting on serotonin receptors to calm a migraine, and SAM-e can boost serotonin too. Stack them together and you slightly raise the odds of too much serotonin, a rare but real problem called serotonin syndrome.

What might that look like? Things like a racing heart, agitation, shivering, muscle twitching, sweating, or feeling confused. To be fair, this concern rests on weak, anecdotal evidence, not strong studies, so for most folks the risk is low. Still, I wouldn't combine them on your own. Run it by your pharmacist or doctor first, and seek help quickly if you feel those symptoms come on.

What Is Naratriptan Used For?

Brand name: Amerge

Naratriptan tablets are used to treat migraine headaches — with or without aura — when a migraine is already happening. It is a rescue treatment, meaning you take it during an attack, not daily to prevent migraines.

It is not used to prevent migraines, and it has not been proven effective for cluster headaches. Naratriptan should only be used when a doctor has clearly confirmed a diagnosis of migraine.
