Why this applies to Carisoprodol

Carisoprodol falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) SUBSTRATES — the group Schisandra interacts with.

Theoretically, schisandra might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP2C19 substrates.
In vitro research shows that schisandra inhibits CYP2C19, and animal research shows that schisandra increases the concentration of voriconazole, a CYP2C19 substrate. Theoretically, schisandra may also inhibit the metabolism of other CYP2C19 substrates. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the quick picture for Soma (carisoprodol). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP2C19 to break this muscle relaxer down. Schisandra, at least in lab and animal studies, appears to slow that same enzyme. If it does the same thing in people, carisoprodol could clear out of your body more slowly and build up a bit, which may push its effects a little stronger.

With more carisoprodol hanging around, you could feel extra drowsy, dizzy, foggy, or unsteady on your feet. I want to be honest though: this concern comes only from test-tube and animal data and has not actually been shown in humans, so it's theoretical. Still, since both can be sedating, I'd run it past your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

This medication is intended only for short-term use — up to two or three weeks. It has not been proven effective for longer-term use, and the muscle conditions it treats are generally short-lived by nature.
