Buspirone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Schizonepeta interacts with.

Animal research suggests that schizonepetin, a monoterpene constituent of schizonepeta, induces cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A4. Theoretically, schizonepeta might decrease the effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
Some substrates of CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others.

Here's the gist for buspirone: your body relies heavily on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break it down. In animal research, a compound in Schizonepeta appears to speed that enzyme up. If that holds true in people, it could clear buspirone out of your system faster, meaning the medicine may not control your anxiety as well as it should.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. This is based only on lab and animal work, not human studies, so it's more theoretical than proven. Buspirone already varies a lot person to person. If you notice your anxiety creeping back, or you want to add this herb, loop in your pharmacist or doctor first so they can keep an eye on how well your medicine is working.

Buspirone tablets and capsules are used to manage anxiety disorders or to relieve anxiety symptoms in the short term. Its effectiveness has been shown in clinical trials focused on Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) — a condition marked by persistent, hard-to-control worry along with physical symptoms like muscle tension, restlessness, difficulty concentrating, and sleep problems.

Buspirone has also been shown to relieve anxiety in people who have mild depressive symptoms alongside their anxiety. Everyday stress and tension, on their own, generally do not require treatment with a medicine like buspirone.
