Ciclesonide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Schizonepeta interacts with.

Animal research suggests that schizonepetin, a monoterpene constituent of schizonepeta, induces cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A4. Theoretically, schizonepeta might decrease the effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
Some substrates of CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others.

Here's something interesting about ciclesonide: it's actually a prodrug. When you breathe it in, an enzyme in your lungs turns it into its active form (des-ciclesonide), and your liver's CYP3A4 enzyme then helps clear that active drug from your body. So the bigger question with Schizonepeta is about how fast that active steroid gets broken down.

The concern on file is theoretical and comes only from lab and animal studies, where a compound in Schizonepeta seemed to speed up CYP3A4. In plain terms, your body might clear the active steroid a little faster, which could slightly weaken its control of your asthma (more wheezing or chest tightness). The evidence here is weak, so I wouldn't panic, but do mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Ciclesonide Oral Inhalation Used For?

Brand names: Omnaris, Alvesco, Zetonna

Alvesco (ciclesonide) inhaler is approved for the maintenance treatment of asthma as a preventive therapy in adults and children 12 years of age and older. It is taken regularly to reduce airway inflammation and help prevent asthma symptoms — not to relieve a sudden attack.

Alvesco is not a rescue inhaler and should not be used to treat sudden wheezing or acute asthma episodes. It is also not approved for children under 12.
