Pentazocine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Schizonepeta interacts with.

Animal research suggests that schizonepetin, a monoterpene constituent of schizonepeta, inhibits cytochrome P450 (CYP) 1A2. Theoretically, schizonepeta might increase the effects and side effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
Some substrates of CYP1A2 include clozapine (Clozaril), cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril), fluvoxamine (Luvox), haloperidol (Haldol), imipramine (Tofranil), mexiletine (Mexitil), olanzapine (Zyprexa), pentazocine (Talwin), propranolol (Inderal), tacrine (Cognex), theophylline, zileuton (Zyflo), zolmitriptan (Zomig), and others.

Here's the gist for pentazocine (Talwin): your liver uses an enzyme called CYP1A2 to help clear it from your body. A compound in Schizonepeta may slow that enzyme down, at least in lab and animal testing. If that happens in people, pentazocine could hang around a bit longer and hit harder. That might mean more drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, constipation, or, in a bigger sense, slowed breathing.

I want to be honest about the evidence here. This is only theoretical, based on test-tube and animal work, not real patients, so we don't truly know it matters in everyday life. Still, since pentazocine is a strong pain medicine, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two.
