Amphetamine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Schizonepeta interacts with.

Animal research suggests that schizonepetin, a monoterpene constituent of schizonepeta, inhibits cytochrome P450 (CYP) 2D6. Theoretically, schizonepeta might increase the effects and side effects of CYP2D6 substrates.
Some substrates of CYP2D6 include amitriptyline (Elavil), codeine, desipramine (Norpramin), flecainide (Tambocor), haloperidol (Haldol), imipramine (Tofranil), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), ondansetron (Zofran), paroxetine (Paxil), risperidone (Risperdal), tramadol (Ultram), venlafaxine (Effexor), and others.

Here's the simple version: one of your body's liver enzymes, called CYP2D6, helps break down amphetamine. Lab and animal studies hint that a compound in Schizonepeta may slow that enzyme down. If that happens in people, amphetamine could clear more slowly and build up a bit, which could mean stronger or longer-lasting effects.

For a stimulant like amphetamine, that might show up as a faster heartbeat, higher blood pressure, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, or feeling on edge. I want to be honest, though, this concern comes only from test-tube and animal research, so it's theoretical and not proven in humans. Still, since amphetamine already affects the heart and nervous system, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two.

What Is Amphetamine Used For?

Brand names: Dyanavel XR, Adensys XR-ODT, Mydayis, Adzenys ER

Amphetamine treats Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in patients 6 years and older. Adzenys XR-ODT, Dyanavel XR, and the amphetamine extended-release orally disintegrating tablet formulations are specifically approved for ADHD in this age group.

Amphetamine Sulfate tablets and Evekeo (amphetamine sulfate tablets) are also approved for narcolepsy (a sleep disorder causing uncontrollable daytime sleepiness) and as a short-term aid in a calorie-restricted weight-loss program for exogenous obesity (weight gain from external factors like overeating) in patients who have not responded to other approaches.
