Naproxen falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Schizonepeta interacts with.

Animal research suggests that schizonepetin, a monoterpene constituent of schizonepeta, inhibits cytochrome P450 (CYP) 1A2. Theoretically, schizonepeta might increase the effects and side effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
Some substrates of CYP1A2 include clozapine (Clozaril), cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril), fluvoxamine (Luvox), haloperidol (Haldol), imipramine (Tofranil), mexiletine (Mexitil), olanzapine (Zyprexa), pentazocine (Talwin), propranolol (Inderal), tacrine (Cognex), theophylline, zileuton (Zyflo), zolmitriptan (Zomig), and others.

Here's the basic idea: a compound in Schizonepeta called schizonepetin appears to slow down a liver enzyme known as CYP1A2, at least in lab and animal studies. Naproxen relies partly on this enzyme pathway to be cleared from your body. If that pathway is slowed, a bit more naproxen could linger around, which in theory might nudge up its effects and side effects, like stomach upset, heartburn, fluid retention, or higher blood pressure.

I want to be honest with you, though: this is very weak evidence (only test-tube and animal data), so we don't know if it matters in real people. Occasional culinary use of the herb is unlikely to cause trouble. Still, if you plan to take concentrated Schizonepeta supplements regularly alongside naproxen, run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Naproxen Used For?

Brand names: Naprosyn, Naprelan, Anaprox, Anaprox DS, Naproxyn, Navalbine, Naproxen, Naprosyn EC, Napro-Na, Aleve, Arthroxen, Synflex, EC-Naprosyn

Naproxen tablets, naproxen sodium tablets, and naproxen oral suspension are used to relieve the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis. They are also used for tendonitis, bursitis, and acute gout, and for managing pain and primary dysmenorrhea (menstrual cramps).

Naproxen Sodium Controlled-Release Tablets are indicated for the same conditions plus the relief of mild to moderate pain. Several over-the-counter naproxen sodium products are indicated for the temporary relief of minor aches and pains from headache, backache, muscular aches, toothache, menstrual cramps, minor arthritis pain, and the common cold, and to temporarily reduce fever.
