Propoxyphene falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Schizonepeta interacts with.

Animal research suggests that schizonepetin, a monoterpene constituent of schizonepeta, inhibits cytochrome P450 (CYP) 2D6. Theoretically, schizonepeta might increase the effects and side effects of CYP2D6 substrates.
Some substrates of CYP2D6 include amitriptyline (Elavil), codeine, desipramine (Norpramin), flecainide (Tambocor), haloperidol (Haldol), imipramine (Tofranil), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), ondansetron (Zofran), paroxetine (Paxil), risperidone (Risperdal), tramadol (Ultram), venlafaxine (Effexor), and others.

Here's the gist with Schizonepeta and propoxyphene. Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to help process propoxyphene, and lab and animal studies hint that a compound in this herb may slow that enzyme down. If that happens, propoxyphene could linger longer and hit a little harder, meaning more drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, nausea, or in larger amounts, slowed breathing.

That said, I want to be honest about the strength of this concern. It comes only from test-tube and animal research, not real people, so it's theoretical at this point. Propoxyphene is also a potent opioid that's been pulled from many markets, so don't add this herb without checking first. Please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two.
