Abemaciclib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Schizonepeta interacts with.

Animal research suggests that schizonepetin, a monoterpene constituent of schizonepeta, induces cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A4. Theoretically, schizonepeta might decrease the effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
Some substrates of CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others.

Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down Verzenio (abemaciclib), your breast cancer pill. Animal studies hint that a compound in Schizonepeta may rev up that enzyme. If that happened in people, your body could clear abemaciclib a little faster, which in theory might lower its level in your blood and make it less effective at controlling the cancer. Abemaciclib is not a prodrug, so faster breakdown means weaker effect, not stronger.

I want to be honest with you: this is only based on lab and animal data, so it is more of a caution than a proven problem. Still, with a cancer medicine you do not want to gamble. Please check with your oncologist or pharmacist before adding Schizonepeta.

About Abemaciclib

What Is Abemaciclib Used For?

Brand name: Verzenio

Verzenio (abemaciclib) is used to treat HR-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer in adults. For early breast cancer at high risk of recurrence, Verzenio is taken alongside endocrine therapy (tamoxifen or an aromatase inhibitor) after surgery to help prevent the cancer from coming back.

For advanced or metastatic breast cancer (cancer that has spread), Verzenio can be used in combination with an aromatase inhibitor as a first hormonal treatment, in combination with fulvestrant after the cancer has progressed on endocrine therapy, or alone after prior endocrine therapy and chemotherapy have stopped working.
