Warfarin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Schizonepeta interacts with.

Animal research suggests that schizonepetin, a monoterpene constituent of schizonepeta, inhibits cytochrome P450 (CYP) 1A2. Theoretically, schizonepeta might increase the effects and side effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
Some substrates of CYP1A2 include clozapine (Clozaril), cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril), fluvoxamine (Luvox), haloperidol (Haldol), imipramine (Tofranil), mexiletine (Mexitil), olanzapine (Zyprexa), pentazocine (Talwin), propranolol (Inderal), tacrine (Cognex), theophylline, zileuton (Zyflo), zolmitriptan (Zomig), and others.

Here's the gist for warfarin and Schizonepeta. Lab and animal work hints that a compound in this herb can slow down a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. Warfarin is partly cleared through that pathway, so in theory, slowing it could let a bit more warfarin linger in your system. With a blood thinner like warfarin, even small shifts matter, because too much raises your risk of bruising, nosebleeds, or more serious bleeding.

That said, this is theoretical and only based on lab and animal data, so I don't want to alarm you. Warfarin is also driven more by other enzymes (mainly CYP2C9). Please don't start or stop anything on your own. Just loop in your pharmacist or doctor, and if you do use it, keep up with your regular INR checks.

Animal research suggests that schizonepetin, a monoterpene constituent of schizonepeta, induces cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A4. Theoretically, schizonepeta might decrease the effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
Some substrates of CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others.

Here's the gist with warfarin and Schizonepeta. Animal studies hint that a compound in this herb (schizonepetin) may speed up a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, which helps clear warfarin. If that enzyme runs faster, your body could break warfarin down a bit quicker, which in theory means a weaker blood-thinning effect. For a drug like warfarin, even small shifts matter, because too little protection can let a dangerous clot form.

To be fair, this is only lab and animal evidence, not proven in people, so I don't want to alarm you. Still, warfarin is closely monitored with INR blood tests, so please don't start or stop this herb on your own. Loop in your pharmacist or doctor first so your INR can be watched.

What Is Warfarin Used For?

Brand name: Warfarin

Warfarin sodium tablets and Jantoven tablets are both used to prevent and treat venous thrombosis (blood clots in the veins) and pulmonary embolism (a clot in the lungs). They are also used to prevent clot-related complications in people with atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm) or who have had a heart valve replaced.

In people who have had a heart attack, warfarin is used to reduce the risk of death, another heart attack, stroke, or other clotting events. It does not dissolve an existing clot, but it helps prevent the clot from growing and stops new dangerous clots from forming.
