Rivaroxaban falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Selenium interacts with.

Selenium may have antiplatelet effects and may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Clinical research suggests that taking selenium 10 mcg/kg/day can increase bleeding times by increasing prostacyclin production, which inhibits platelet activity. Other clinical research suggests that taking selenium 75 mcg daily, in combination with ascorbic acid 600 mg, alpha-tocopherol 300 mg, and beta-carotene 27 mg, reduces platelet aggregation.

Here's the thing with Xarelto (rivaroxaban): it's already a blood thinner, working by blocking a clotting factor called Factor Xa. Selenium isn't broken down by the same pathways, so this isn't a metabolism issue. Instead, lab and small clinical studies hint that selenium may make your platelets a little less sticky, which could add to rivaroxaban's blood-thinning effect and slightly raise your bleeding risk.

In real life, that might show up as easier bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or cuts that take longer to stop. I want to be honest, though: this evidence is weak, mostly from lab work and higher selenium doses. Normal dietary amounts almost certainly won't matter. Before adding a selenium supplement, just check with your pharmacist or doctor.

About Rivaroxaban

What Is Rivaroxaban Used For?

Brand name: Xarelto

Rivaroxaban tablets are used to reduce the risk of stroke in adults with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm), treat deep vein thrombosis (DVT, a blood clot in a vein) and pulmonary embolism (PE, a blood clot in the lungs), and lower the chances of these clots coming back. They also help prevent clots after hip or knee replacement surgery, protect hospitalized patients at risk for clots, and — in combination with aspirin — reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events in adults with coronary artery disease (CAD) or peripheral artery disease (PAD).

Rivaroxaban tablets are also approved for treating VTE (venous thromboembolism, blood clots in veins) and preventing recurrence in pediatric patients from birth to under 18 years, and for preventing clots in children aged 2 and older with congenital heart disease after the Fontan procedure. Rivaroxaban for oral suspension (available as Rivaroxaban Granule and Xarelto oral suspension) is specifically indicated for these two pediatric uses.
