Here's the simple version: both Sweet Annie and bortezomib (Velcade) can each be hard on the liver, so taking them together raises the worry that the strain could add up. Bortezomib isn't a prodrug that the herb activates, this is really just about two things that may stress the same organ at the same time.

With bortezomib, your care team already watches liver numbers closely, since the drug can occasionally cause liver irritation. Adding a supplement that may do the same thing could make those values worse or bring on tiredness, nausea, or yellowing of the skin or eyes. To be honest, this is based on weak, anecdotal evidence, not strong proof. Still, while you're on cancer treatment, please run any supplement past your oncologist or pharmacist first.

Bortezomib is used to treat two types of cancer in adults: multiple myeloma (a cancer of plasma cells in the bone marrow) and mantle cell lymphoma (a type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma). These indications are shared across the available products — Velcade, Boruzu, and generic bortezomib formulations.
