Here's the concern with pairing ashwagandha and bortezomib (Velcade). This isn't about ashwagandha changing how the drug works or how strong it is. Instead, it's about your liver. Bortezomib can be hard on the liver in some people, and ashwagandha has been tied to rare but real cases of liver injury (everything from hepatitis to serious liver failure). Putting two things together that can each stress the liver may, in theory, raise that risk.

I'll be honest that this is a theoretical caution based on how each one behaves, not proven cases of the combo. Still, since you're already going through cancer treatment, watch for yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, or unusual tiredness, and please run any supplement by your oncology team first.

Bortezomib is used to treat two types of cancer in adults: multiple myeloma (a cancer of plasma cells in the bone marrow) and mantle cell lymphoma (a type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma). These indications are shared across the available products — Velcade, Boruzu, and generic bortezomib formulations.
