Thuja products can contains significant amounts of thujone, a neurotoxin. Theoretically, patients taking drugs that lower the seizure threshold might be at greater risk of seizure if they also take thuja. Advise patients taking these drugs to avoid thuja products. Some drugs that lower the seizure threshold include anesthetics (propofol, others), antiarrhythmics (mexiletine), antibiotics (amphotericin, penicillin, cephalosporins, imipenem), antidepressants (bupropion, others), antihistamines (cyproheptadine, others), immunosuppressants (cyclosporine), narcotics (fentanyl, others), stimulants (methylphenidate), theophylline, and others.

Here's the thing to know about pairing Thuja with clemastine. Thuja products, especially the oil, can carry a compound called thujone, which is a known neurotoxin that may make seizures more likely. Clemastine is a sedating antihistamine, and drugs in its family can slightly lower the threshold at which a seizure might happen. Put the two together and, in theory, you could nudge that risk a little higher.

I want to be honest about the evidence here: this concern is mostly theoretical and based on anecdotal reports, not strong studies. For most people it's a small worry, but since concentrated thuja can be toxic anyway, I'd skip the supplement and check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Thuja, also called northern white cedar or arborvitae, is a tree whose leaf and oil have a long history in folk and homeopathic medicine, especially for warts and immune support. Solid human evidence for these uses is very limited, and the undiluted oil contains thujone, which can be toxic. What Is Clemastine Used For?

Brand name: Tavist Allergy

Clemastine treats symptoms of allergic rhinitis (hay fever and similar nasal allergies) — including sneezing, runny nose, itching, and watery eyes. The oral solution (Clemastine Fumarate syrup) is indicated for adults and children aged 6 through 12 years. The tablets (Clemastine Fumarate and Clemsza) are indicated for adults.

Clemastine also treats mild, uncomplicated allergic skin reactions — specifically urticaria (hives) and angioedema (swelling under the skin) — at the appropriate dosage level, in both the oral solution and tablet forms.
