Emapalumab-Lzsg falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Thuja interacts with.

Thuja might stimulate immune function. Theoretically, taking thuja might decrease the effects of immunosuppressive therapy. Immunosuppressant drugs include azathioprine (Imuran), basiliximab (Simulect), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), daclizumab (Zenapax), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), mycophenolate (CellCept), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), and other corticosteroids (glucocorticoids).

Here's the thinking on this one. Gamifant (emapalumab) is a powerful antibody medicine that calms down an overactive immune system in HLH. Thuja, on the other hand, contains compounds that lab studies suggest may stimulate immune activity. So in theory, pulling in opposite directions, thuja could work against what emapalumab is trying to do and chip away at how well it controls the dangerous inflammation of HLH.

I want to be honest that this is a theoretical concern based on how these things work, not something proven in people. Still, HLH is serious and emapalumab is reserved for tough cases, so I wouldn't gamble with it. Please check with your specialist or pharmacist before adding any thuja product.

Thuja, also called northern white cedar or arborvitae, is a tree whose leaf and oil have a long history in folk and homeopathic medicine, especially for warts and immune support. Solid human evidence for these uses is very limited, and the undiluted oil contains thujone, which can be toxic. Talk with a pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

What Is Emapalumab-lzsg Injection Used For?

Brand name: Gamifant

Gamifant is used to treat primary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) — a rare, life-threatening condition where the immune system becomes dangerously overactivated — in adults and children whose disease has not responded to, has come back during, or has progressed on standard HLH therapy, or who cannot tolerate it.

Gamifant is also used for HLH/macrophage activation syndrome (MAS) in adults and children with known or suspected Still's disease, including systemic Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (sJIA), when glucocorticoids (steroid medicines) have not worked well enough, cannot be tolerated, or when MAS keeps coming back.
