Gabapentin enacarbil falls under ANTICONVULSANTS — the group Thuja interacts with.

Here's the thing with Thuja and Horizant (gabapentin enacarbil): Thuja can contain a compound called thujone, and in the lab thujone seems to make the brain a little more prone to seizures. Gabapentin enacarbil works in the opposite direction, calming overactive nerve signals. So the worry is that thujone could partly work against your medication, possibly making seizures harder to control or letting restless legs or nerve pain symptoms creep back.

I want to be honest about the strength of this concern. It's largely theoretical and based on anecdotal reports, not solid human studies. Still, if you take this medication for seizures, I'd err on the cautious side. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding any Thuja product, and don't change your gabapentin on your own.

Thuja, also called northern white cedar or arborvitae, is a tree whose leaf and oil have a long history in folk and homeopathic medicine, especially for warts and immune support. Solid human evidence for these uses is very limited, and the undiluted oil contains thujone, which can be toxic. About Gabapentin

What Is Gabapentin Used For?

Brand name: Horizant

Gabapentin (brands include Neurontin, Relgaabi, Gabarone, Gralise, and Horizant) is primarily used to manage postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) — the nerve pain that lingers after a shingles outbreak — in adults. Neurontin, Relgaabi, Gabarone, and gabapentin capsules, tablets, and oral solution are also used as add-on therapy for partial onset seizures (a type of epilepsy) in adults and children aged 3 and older.

Horizant (gabapentin enacarbil extended-release tablet) has two specific approvals: treatment of moderate-to-severe primary restless legs syndrome (RLS) in adults, and management of postherpetic neuralgia in adults. Horizant is not recommended for people who need to sleep during the day and stay awake at night. Gralise is approved only for postherpetic neuralgia and cannot be substituted for other gabapentin products due to its different release profile.
