Thuja products can contains significant amounts of thujone, a neurotoxin. Theoretically, patients taking drugs that lower the seizure threshold might be at greater risk of seizure if they also take thuja. Advise patients taking these drugs to avoid thuja products. Some drugs that lower the seizure threshold include anesthetics (propofol, others), antiarrhythmics (mexiletine), antibiotics (amphotericin, penicillin, cephalosporins, imipenem), antidepressants (bupropion, others), antihistamines (cyproheptadine, others), immunosuppressants (cyclosporine), narcotics (fentanyl, others), stimulants (methylphenidate), theophylline, and others.

Here's the simple version. Thuja (the leaf and especially the oil) contains a compound called thujone, which in larger amounts can irritate the nervous system and, in theory, make seizures more likely. Certain medicines, including some iodinated contrast agents used for imaging studies, can also lower the threshold at which a seizure might happen. Stacking those two together could, at least on paper, raise that risk a little more.

I'll be honest with you: this concern is theoretical and based mostly on anecdotal reports, not strong studies. Still, because seizures are serious, the safest move is to avoid concentrated thuja supplements or oil while you're receiving this medication. Please run it by your pharmacist or doctor first so they can look at your full picture.
