Bendamustine Hydrochloride falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Thunder God Vine interacts with.

Theoretically, thunder god vine might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that triptolide, a constituent of thunder god vine, inhibits CYP1A2 enzymes in human microsomes. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for bendamustine (Bendeka). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP1A2 to help process this chemo drug. Thunder God Vine contains a compound (triptolide) that may slow that enzyme down. In theory, that could let bendamustine build up a bit more than expected, which might mean stronger effects and more side effects, such as low blood counts, infections, nausea, fatigue, or fever.

I want to be honest about how soft this is: it comes only from lab (test tube) studies, and it has never actually been reported in real patients. Still, bendamustine is potent cancer treatment with little room for error, so please don't combine the two without first checking with your oncology team.

What Is Bendamustine Injection Used For?

Brand name: Bendeka

Bendamustine hydrochloride injection is used to treat adults with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). It is also used for adults with indolent B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) — a slow-growing type of blood cancer — when the disease has continued to progress during or within six months of treatment with rituximab or a rituximab-containing regimen.

For CLL, how well bendamustine works compared to other first-line treatments (aside from chlorambucil) has not been fully established.
