Brexpiprazole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Thunder God Vine interacts with.

Theoretically, thunder god vine might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that triptolide, a constituent of thunder god vine, inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes in human microsomes. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for Rexulti (brexpiprazole): your body relies heavily on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break this medication down. Thunder God Vine contains a compound, triptolide, that may slow that same enzyme. If clearance slows, brexpiprazole could build up a bit more than usual, which might mean stronger effects and more side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, restlessness, weight gain, or feeling unsteady.

I want to be honest about how solid this is. So far this has only been seen in lab dish studies, not in real people, so it's theoretical. Still, since Thunder God Vine itself can be toxic and needs medical supervision, please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before combining them rather than changing anything on your own.

What Is Brexpiprazole Used For?

Brand name: Rexulti

Brexpiprazole tablets are approved for two uses in adults: as an add-on (adjunctive) treatment alongside antidepressants for major depressive disorder (MDD), and as a treatment for schizophrenia. These uses apply to both the generic brexpiprazole tablets and Rexulti.

Rexulti has one additional approved use: treating agitation associated with dementia due to Alzheimer's disease in adults. Rexulti is also approved for schizophrenia in adolescents ages 13 and older. Note that Rexulti is not approved for dementia-related psychosis without agitation from Alzheimer's disease, and it is not meant to be used on an as-needed basis for Alzheimer's-related agitation.
