Thunder God Vine and Ephedrine Sulfate, Hydroxyzine, Theophylline

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Why this applies to Ephedrine Sulfate, Hydroxyzine, Theophylline

Ephedrine Sulfate, Hydroxyzine, Theophylline falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Thunder God Vine interacts with.

Theoretically, thunder god vine might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that triptolide, a constituent of thunder god vine, inhibits CYP1A2 enzymes in human microsomes. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Of the three drugs in this combination product, the one that matters most here is theophylline. Your liver clears theophylline largely through an enzyme called CYP1A2. In lab (test tube) studies, a compound in Thunder God Vine appears to slow that enzyme down. If that happened in the body, theophylline could build up and bring on side effects like a racing or pounding heartbeat, nausea, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, or in higher amounts, tremor or irregular heartbeats.

I want to be honest about the evidence: this is theoretical and based only on lab work, never reported in real people. Still, theophylline has a narrow safety window, so small shifts can matter. Please don't change anything on your own. Just check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining these.
