ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
Why this applies to Alogliptin, Metformin
Alogliptin, Metformin falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Tinospora Cordifolia interacts with.
Clinical research in adults with type 2 diabetes shows that Tinospora cordifolia can reduce fasting blood glucose and glycated hemoglobin. Additionally, animal research shows that Tinospora cordifolia has hypoglycemic effects.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to keep an eye on with Kazano (which combines alogliptin and metformin) alongside Giloy. Both of these medicines already work to lower your blood sugar, and studies in people with type 2 diabetes suggest Tinospora cordifolia can nudge fasting glucose and A1c down too. Stack them together and you could end up with blood sugar that drops a little lower than planned.
Watch for signs of low blood sugar: shakiness, sweating, a racing heart, dizziness, or feeling suddenly hungry or confused. This isn't a reason to panic, the effect is generally mild and additive rather than dangerous. But before adding Giloy, I'd loop in your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on your numbers. One extra note, this herb has been linked to rare liver injury, which matters when you're already on metformin.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Alogliptin, Metformin page
“Kazano combines alogliptin and metformin to lower blood sugar, and nearly everything on this list pushes on that same lever, so I treat these pairings with real caution. Most entries are herbs and supplements that lower glucose on their own, and stacked on the drug they raise the risk of hypoglycemia, a sugar drop steep enough to cause…”
