Here's the gist with tragacanth and your lisinopril. Tragacanth is a thick, gel-forming fiber, and when it sits in your stomach and gut alongside a swallowed pill, it can physically trap some of the medicine and change how much gets absorbed. This is a theoretical concern based on how the gum behaves, not something proven in studies, so try not to worry too much.

The tricky part is the direction isn't predictable. It could slightly lower your lisinopril absorption (so your blood pressure runs a bit higher than expected) or nudge it the other way. To stay on the safe side, a simple spacing trick helps: take your lisinopril first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before any tragacanth. If you use it regularly, just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up.

Tragacanth is a plant gum used mainly as a thickener and emulsifier in foods, cosmetics, and medicines, and traditionally to soothe the throat and gut. There is very little solid human research showing it treats any specific condition. It is generally considered safe in food amounts, but anyone with allergies or who is pregnant or breastfeeding should check with a pharmacist or doctor first.

About Lisinopril

What Is Lisinopril Used For?

Brand names: Zestril, Prinivil, Qbrelis

Lisinopril treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children 6 years and older, and can be used alone or alongside other blood pressure medicines. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. The tablet combination product containing lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide is specifically indicated for high blood pressure.

Lisinopril is also used as an add-on therapy to reduce signs and symptoms of systolic heart failure, and to reduce the risk of death in people who are hemodynamically stable (have reasonably stable circulation) within 24 hours of an acute heart attack (acute myocardial infarction).
