Tragacanth contains hydrocolloidal fiber which can decrease, increase, or not affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take tragacanth 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the thing to know about tragacanth and pazopanib (Votrient). Tragacanth is a gummy fiber that swells into a thick gel when it hits fluid in your stomach. That gel can sometimes grab onto a pill and change how much of it gets absorbed into your body. With pazopanib, this could in theory either lower the amount your body takes in (so the cancer treatment works less well) or shift it the other way. We honestly can't predict the direction here.

This is a theoretical concern based on how the fiber behaves, not on real studies in people, so I don't want to alarm you. Pazopanib is a serious medication where steady levels matter, so a simple fix is to space them out: take your tragacanth 30 to 60 minutes after your pazopanib. Please run this by your oncology pharmacist or doctor first.

Tragacanth is a plant gum used mainly as a thickener and emulsifier in foods, cosmetics, and medicines, and traditionally to soothe the throat and gut. There is very little solid human research showing it treats any specific condition. It is generally considered safe in food amounts, but anyone with allergies or who is pregnant or breastfeeding should check with a pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Pazopanib Used For?

Brand name: Votrient

Pazopanib tablets — sold as the brand Votrient and as generic pazopanib — are used to treat two types of advanced cancer in adults: advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC), the most common form of kidney cancer, and advanced soft tissue sarcoma (STS) in patients who have already received prior chemotherapy.

Important limitation: Pazopanib has not been shown to work in adipocytic soft tissue sarcoma (a subtype involving fat cells) or in gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs), so it is not used for those cancers.
