Here's the gist with sotalol and tragacanth. Tragacanth is a gummy fiber that swells into a thick gel in your stomach. That gel can sometimes grab onto a pill and change how much of it your body soaks up. This isn't proven for sotalol specifically; it's a theoretical concern based on how fiber gums behave, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

Still, sotalol matters here because it keeps your heart rhythm steady, and that's not something you want drifting. If too little gets absorbed, your rhythm control could slip; if too much, you might notice more dizziness, fatigue, or a slow heartbeat. The easy fix is timing: take your sotalol first, then wait 30 to 60 minutes before tragacanth. Run this by your pharmacist or doctor to be safe.

Tragacanth is a plant gum used mainly as a thickener and emulsifier in foods, cosmetics, and medicines, and traditionally to soothe the throat and gut. There is very little solid human research showing it treats any specific condition. It is generally considered safe in food amounts, but anyone with allergies or who is pregnant or breastfeeding should check with a pharmacist or doctor first.

About Sotalol

What Is Sotalol Used For?

Brand names: Betapace AF, Betapace, Sotacor, Sorine

Sotalol is used to treat documented, life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias (dangerous irregular heart rhythms originating in the lower chambers of the heart), such as sustained ventricular tachycardia (a rapid, sustained abnormal heartbeat). Because it carries real risks of its own, it is generally reserved for arrhythmias serious enough to be life-threatening — not for mild or symptom-only rhythm problems.

It is not recommended for people with less severe arrhythmias, even if those arrhythmias cause symptoms, and it should be avoided in people with asymptomatic (no-symptom) extra heartbeats called ventricular premature contractions.
