Vitamin C + Bleomycin
Bleomycin brand name: Blenoxane.
Vitamin C has a moderate interaction with Bleomycin. Theoretically, the antioxidant effects of vitamin C might reduce the effectiveness of antitumor antibiotics.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTITUMOR ANTIBIOTICS
Why this applies to Bleomycin
Bleomycin falls under ANTITUMOR ANTIBIOTICS — the group Vitamin C interacts with.
The use of antioxidants like vitamin C during chemotherapy is controversial. There is concern that antioxidants could reduce the activity of chemotherapy drugs which generate free radicals, such as doxorubicin. In contrast, some researchers theorize that antioxidants might make chemotherapy more effective by reducing oxidative stress that could interfere with apoptosis (cell death) of cancer cells. More evidence is needed to determine what effects, if any, antioxidants such as vitamin C have on chemotherapy.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thinking behind this one with bleomycin. Part of how bleomycin kills cancer cells is by generating free radicals, those unstable molecules that damage the tumor's DNA. Because vitamin C is an antioxidant, the worry is that high doses could, in theory, mop up some of those free radicals and blunt how well the chemo works.
I want to be honest with you though: this is a theoretical concern based on how these drugs behave in the lab, not proven harm in people. Researchers actually disagree on whether antioxidants hurt or help. A normal diet or a multivitamin's worth of vitamin C is very different from large supplement doses. Since this is cancer treatment, please don't start or stop any vitamin C on your own. Let your oncology team make that call with you.

- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

About Vitamin C
What is Vitamin C?
- Common cold and immune support
- Antioxidant support
- Skin health and collagen formation
- Wound healing
- Preventing or treating scurvy
- Improving iron absorption
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is an essential nutrient your body needs but cannot make, so you must get it from food or supplements. It's important for immune function, collagen, and acts as an antioxidant, but taking large doses doesn't prevent colds for most people and may cause stomach upset. Most people get enough from a balanced diet, so check with your pharmacist or doctor before taking high-dose supplements.
About Bleomycin
What Is Bleomycin Used For?
Brand name: Blenoxane
Bleomycin is considered a palliative treatment, meaning it helps manage cancer rather than being expected to cure it. It is used alone or with other approved chemotherapy drugs.
It is used for squamous cell carcinoma (head and neck, penis, cervix and vulva), Hodgkin's disease, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and testicular carcinoma. It is also used to treat malignant pleural effusion and prevent it from coming back. Response is poorer in people whose head and neck cancer was previously treated with radiation.
