HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Advanced Probiotic 40 Billion CFU by eXplicit Supplements
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This product has 6 active ingredients: several Lactobacillus strains (plantarum, acidophilus, and paracasei), Bifidobacterium animalis lactis, Fructooligosaccharide (a type of dietary fiber that feeds beneficial bacteria), and a Marine Polysaccharide Complex. These are live probiotic bacteria — beneficial microorganisms meant to support your gut — plus a prebiotic fiber to help them thrive.
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients: cellulose, rice maltodextrin, and L-leucine, which are fillers and binders.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
L. acidophilus is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), helping with Helicobacter pylori (a stomach bacterium), preventing antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and treating bacterial vaginosis. However, the evidence isn't established in our data for acute respiratory distress syndrome, and it appears possibly ineffective for atopic disease (allergic conditions).
For the other ingredients — Lactobacillus paracasei, Bifidobacterium animalis, and Fructooligosaccharide — the evidence on file is too limited to rate whether they work for osteoporosis, constipation, diabetes, travelers' diarrhea, or high cholesterol.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L. acidophilus is generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children, though the data are limited. The main concern: because it's a live organism, it theoretically could cause infection in some people — cases of bacteremia (bacteria in the bloodstream), sepsis, and other serious infections have been reported, though these are rare and usually happen in people whose bodies are already compromised.
You should check with your doctor before use. Fructooligosaccharide is generally well tolerated in food amounts but commonly causes gas, bloating, abdominal pain, and flatulence, especially at higher doses — though studies at doses under 10 grams a day show these effects don't increase compared to placebo.
We have limited safety data for the other ingredients at supplement levels, so professional guidance is wise. Pregnancy and lactation data for these ingredients aren't on file.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antibiotic drugs, check with your pharmacist on timing — you'll want to separate them from this supplement by a few hours so the antibiotics don't kill off the live bacteria. Run your exact medications through the checker below to be sure.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you have IBS, recurrent antibiotic-related diarrhea, or bacterial vaginosis, this product may be worth considering with your doctor's input. Anyone taking antibiotics should time this supplement several hours apart.
Be ready for gas and bloating, especially when you first start. Talk to your pharmacist before you begin — especially if you're immunocompromised or taking any medications.

Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
