Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
BioChroMate contains two active ingredients: biotin and chromium. Biotin is a B vitamin that supports hair, skin, and nail health and is essential for energy metabolism.
Chromium is a mineral that plays a role in blood sugar regulation and may support how your body uses insulin. The capsule itself is made from vegetable cellulose with vegetable magnesium stearate and k-gelatin as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Biotin is likely effective for biotin deficiency, but evidence is insufficient or suggests it won't help for alopecia areata (hair loss), multiple sclerosis, or seborrheic dermatitis. Chromium is likely effective for chromium deficiency and possibly effective for diabetes management.
For prediabetes (impaired glucose tolerance), schizophrenia, and high blood pressure, the evidence suggests chromium is not effective.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Both biotin and chromium are generally well tolerated at typical supplement doses. Biotin is considered likely safe even during pregnancy and lactation.
With biotin, high-dose supplements have rarely caused mild diarrhea; one case of an unusual inflammatory reaction was reported but hasn't occurred again and may not have been biotin alone. Chromium is usually well tolerated, but high or long-term doses carry risks.
Common side effects at higher doses include stomach irritation, headaches, insomnia, irritability, and mood changes. Rare serious effects like kidney or liver damage and blood cell problems have been reported with high-dose use.
Skin reactions, including rashes and contact dermatitis, can occur. The safety data advises against extra chromium supplementation beyond diet unless your doctor recommends it, especially at higher doses.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check with your pharmacist if you take insulin or antidiabetes drugs (Moderate risk of low blood sugar), levothyroxine or other thyroid medications (Moderate risk of reduced absorption), NSAIDs like ibuprofen, or aspirin (Minor risk of increased chromium levels).
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
BioChroMate may be worth considering if you have a biotin or chromium deficiency or want to support blood sugar metabolism — but only if your doctor agrees. If you take insulin, diabetes medications, levothyroxine, NSAIDs, or aspirin, you need to check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

BioChroMate by DC Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
BioChroMate by DC contains biotin and chromium.
Biotin has no documented interactions with medications. Chromium, however, does interact with several drug types, and the most serious concern is with insulin and antidiabetes drugs — both carry Moderate severity.
Chromium may increase insulin sensitivity and theoretically raise the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) when combined with these medications.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Chromium also has a Moderate interaction with levothyroxine (Synthroid), a thyroid medication. Taking chromium may reduce how much levothyroxine your body absorbs — research shows a potential 17% drop in blood levels.
To minimize this, take levothyroxine and this product several hours apart. Additionally, chromium carries Minor interactions with NSAIDs (like ibuprofen) and aspirin, which may increase how much chromium your body absorbs and retain.
Biotin was checked and carries no interactions. Altogether, these interactions span 177 individual medications.

Chromium
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, chromium may have additive effects with antidiabetic agents and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Some research shows that taking chromium might lower blood glucose levels, especially in patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes.
Insulin
Theoretically, concomitant use of chromium and insulin might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
In clinical research, chromium has been shown to increase insulin sensitivity,
Levothyroxine (Synthroid, Others)
Chromium might bind levothyroxine in the intestinal tract and decrease levothyroxine absorption.
Clinical research in healthy volunteers shows that taking chromium picolinate 1000 mcg with levothyroxine 1 mg decreases serum levels of levothyroxine by 17% when compared to taking levothyroxine alone. Advise patients to take levothyroxine at least 30 minutes before or 3-4 hours after taking chromium.
Aspirin
Theoretically, aspirin might increase chromium absorption.
Animal research suggests that aspirin may increase chromium absorption and chromium levels in the blood.
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (Nsaids)
NSAIDs might increase chromium levels in the body.
Drugs that are prostaglandin inhibitors, such as NSAIDs, seem to increase chromium absorption and retention.
