BioChroMate Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of BioChroMate by Wonder Laboratories
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
BioChroMate contains two active ingredients: biotin and chromium. Biotin is a B vitamin that supports hair, skin, and nail health, and it's useful for treating biotin deficiency.
Chromium is a trace mineral involved in blood sugar regulation and may help with diabetes-related blood glucose control. The product also contains inactive ingredients (cellulose, gelatin, and magnesium stearate) that serve as the capsule and binders.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Biotin is likely effective for biotin deficiency. For other uses — multiple sclerosis, seborrheic dermatitis (a scalp condition), and hair loss — the evidence we hold rates it either possibly ineffective or insufficient to say either way.
Chromium is likely effective for chromium deficiency and possibly effective for diabetes. However, it's rated possibly ineffective for prediabetes, high blood pressure, and schizophrenia.
Neither ingredient has strong evidence for most of the conditions people take them for outside of deficiency states.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Biotin is generally well tolerated, even at fairly high doses, because your body removes excess in the urine. High-dose biotin rarely causes mild diarrhea, and there's one isolated case report of a complication in a patient taking multiple supplements — it's unclear if biotin was the cause.
Chromium is usually well tolerated at typical supplement doses, but high or long-term use carries unknown risks. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal irritation, headaches, insomnia, and mood changes.
Rare serious effects include kidney or liver damage and blood cell problems, though these are uncommon. Both ingredients are considered likely safe in pregnancy and lactation at normal dietary amounts, but talk with your doctor before taking high-dose supplements during pregnancy.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking BioChroMate, check with your pharmacist if you take diabetes medications or insulin — chromium may lower blood sugar too far. Also check if you take levothyroxine (thyroid medication), as chromium can reduce how much your body absorbs.
NSAIDs like ibuprofen and aspirin can increase chromium levels, so discuss timing with your pharmacist if you use those regularly.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
BioChroMate may help if you have a biotin or chromium deficiency, but evidence for other uses is limited. If you take diabetes medications, thyroid medication (levothyroxine), or NSAIDs, you should check your specific drugs before starting this product — chromium can affect how well they work.
Talk with your pharmacist before adding this to your routine, especially if you're on any prescription medication.

BioChroMate by Wonder Laboratories Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
BioChroMate by Wonder Laboratories contains chromium, which does interact with several medication types.
The most serious concern is with diabetes drugs (antidiabetes agents and insulin): chromium may lower blood sugar levels, raising the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) — particularly in people whose diabetes is already well controlled. If you take insulin or any diabetes medication, you'll want to check those specific drugs with the tool below.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Chromium also interacts moderately with levothyroxine (Synthroid), a common thyroid medication — it may bind to the drug in your intestines and reduce how much your body absorbs, potentially making it less effective. Clinical research showed a 17% drop in levothyroxine levels when taken with chromium.
And minor interactions are documented with NSAIDs (like ibuprofen) and aspirin, which may increase how much chromium your body absorbs.
Biotin, the other ingredient, has no known interactions documented in our data. Altogether, these interactions span 177 individual medications.
Run your exact prescriptions through the checker on this page to see if any apply to you.

Chromium
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, chromium may have additive effects with antidiabetic agents and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Some research shows that taking chromium might lower blood glucose levels, especially in patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes.
Insulin
Theoretically, concomitant use of chromium and insulin might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
In clinical research, chromium has been shown to increase insulin sensitivity,
Levothyroxine (Synthroid, Others)
Chromium might bind levothyroxine in the intestinal tract and decrease levothyroxine absorption.
Clinical research in healthy volunteers shows that taking chromium picolinate 1000 mcg with levothyroxine 1 mg decreases serum levels of levothyroxine by 17% when compared to taking levothyroxine alone. Advise patients to take levothyroxine at least 30 minutes before or 3-4 hours after taking chromium.
Aspirin
Theoretically, aspirin might increase chromium absorption.
Animal research suggests that aspirin may increase chromium absorption and chromium levels in the blood.
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (Nsaids)
NSAIDs might increase chromium levels in the body.
Drugs that are prostaglandin inhibitors, such as NSAIDs, seem to increase chromium absorption and retention.
