Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains three active ingredients. Biotin is a B vitamin that helps your body break down food for energy and supports healthy hair, skin, and nails.
Chromium is a mineral that plays a role in how your body uses carbohydrates and insulin. Cinnamon bark extract comes from the bark of the cinnamon tree and contains compounds that may affect blood sugar and other body functions.
The inactive ingredients are microcrystalline cellulose, dibasic calcium phosphate, cellulose gum, maltodextrin, silicon dioxide, stearic acid, magnesium stearate, methylcellulose, and glycerin—these are standard fillers and binders used to hold the tablet together and aid absorption.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Biotin is likely effective for treating biotin deficiency. For other uses like seborrheic dermatitis (a scalp condition), multiple sclerosis, and alopecia areata (patchy hair loss), the evidence is either insufficient to rate it or suggests it may not work.
Chromium is likely effective for chromium deficiency and possibly effective for diabetes, though the evidence is limited. For prediabetes, schizophrenia, and high blood pressure, it appears to be ineffective.
Cinnamon bark extract has insufficient evidence to rate for any condition listed—the science simply isn't there yet to say whether it works for amenorrhea, angina, colds, diabetes, diarrhea, or cholesterol.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Biotin is generally well tolerated and considered safe even at fairly high doses because your body removes excess in urine. High doses are rarely linked to mild diarrhea.
Chromium is usually well tolerated at typical supplement doses, but high or long-term use may carry risks—common side effects include gastrointestinal irritation, headaches, insomnia, and mood changes. Rare serious effects like kidney or liver damage have been reported.
Cinnamon bark extract is safe in food amounts, but medicinal doses carry a concern: cassia cinnamon contains coumarin, which can potentially harm the liver if taken in large amounts over time. For pregnancy and lactation: Biotin and chromium are likely safe during pregnancy; amounts from food and prenatal vitamins are normal.
Cinnamon is also likely safe in food amounts during pregnancy, but high-dose supplement forms should be avoided. The facts do not contain lactation data for cinnamon bark extract.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your pharmacist before using this product if you take insulin or antidiabetes drugs (Moderate severity)—chromium and cinnamon may increase hypoglycemia risk. If you take levothyroxine for thyroid, discuss spacing and timing with your pharmacist (Moderate severity).
NSAIDs and aspirin may increase chromium absorption (Minor severity), and any drugs known to be hard on the liver should be discussed if you're taking high-dose cinnamon (Moderate severity).
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product is worth considering if you have biotin deficiency or want to try chromium for blood sugar support—but only if you don't take insulin, diabetes medications, or levothyroxine. If you do take any of those, talk with your pharmacist or doctor first.
Anyone concerned about liver health should be cautious with cinnamon at high doses. Check your exact medications with the tool on this page before you start.

Cinnamon, Chromium & Biotin by Natrol Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Natrol's Cinnamon, Chromium & Biotin does interact with several medication types.
Chromium is the primary concern—it may lower blood sugar and increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) when taken alongside insulin or antidiabetes drugs like metformin or sulfonylureas. The same applies to cinnamon bark extract, which also may lower blood glucose and have additive effects with diabetes medications.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Chromium also interacts with levothyroxine (thyroid hormone), potentially reducing how much of it your body absorbs by around 17%—you'd need to space them several hours apart. Additionally, NSAIDs like ibuprofen and aspirin may increase how much chromium your body absorbs, which could raise chromium levels.
Cinnamon bark extract may pose a liver concern if used long-term at high doses, especially alongside drugs already known to stress the liver.
Biotin, the third ingredient, shows no documented interactions with any medications in our data. Altogether, these interactions span 524 individual medications.

For each ingredient in Cinnamon, Chromium & Biotin with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Cinnamon Bark Extract
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, cassia cinnamon may have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs.
Cassia cinnamon may lower blood glucose levels, and have additive effects in patients treated with antidiabetic agents. Dose adjustments to diabetes medications might be necessary.
Hepatotoxic Drugs
Theoretically, large doses of cassia cinnamon might cause additive effects when used with hepatotoxic drugs.
There is some concern that ingesting large amounts of cassia cinnamon for an extended duration might cause hepatotoxicity in some people. Cassia cinnamon contains coumarin, which can cause hepatotoxicity in animal models. In humans, very high doses of coumarin from 50-7000 mg/day can result in hepatotoxicity that resolves when coumarin use is discontinued. Lower amounts might also cause liver problems in sensitive people, such as those with liver disease or those taking potentially hepatotoxic agents.
Chromium
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, chromium may have additive effects with antidiabetic agents and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Some research shows that taking chromium might lower blood glucose levels, especially in patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes.
Insulin
Theoretically, concomitant use of chromium and insulin might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
In clinical research, chromium has been shown to increase insulin sensitivity,
Levothyroxine (Synthroid, Others)
Chromium might bind levothyroxine in the intestinal tract and decrease levothyroxine absorption.
Clinical research in healthy volunteers shows that taking chromium picolinate 1000 mcg with levothyroxine 1 mg decreases serum levels of levothyroxine by 17% when compared to taking levothyroxine alone. Advise patients to take levothyroxine at least 30 minutes before or 3-4 hours after taking chromium.
Aspirin
Theoretically, aspirin might increase chromium absorption.
Animal research suggests that aspirin may increase chromium absorption and chromium levels in the blood.
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (Nsaids)
NSAIDs might increase chromium levels in the body.
Drugs that are prostaglandin inhibitors, such as NSAIDs, seem to increase chromium absorption and retention.
