Clark FX contains 4 active ingredients: clove, green rooibos tea, wormwood, and green black walnut, combined in a proprietary blend. The formula is delivered as a liquid in a base of glycerin, distilled water, vitamin C, and grain alcohol (the inactive ingredients that carry and preserve the active components).
Does it work?
Not established
For clove, there is possibly effective evidence for ventilator-associated pneumonia (a serious lung infection in hospitalized patients on breathing machines), but the evidence for cough, acute pain, and indigestion is insufficient. For green rooibos tea and green black walnut, the evidence we hold doesn't establish effectiveness for age-related cognitive decline, hay fever, anxiety, cancer, heart disease, or diabetes.
Wormwood likewise shows insufficient evidence for biliary disorders, Crohn disease, depression, indigestion, or osteoarthritis.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Clove is well tolerated as a food spice, but concentrated clove oil and medicinal doses can be irritating or toxic—clove oil at just 5–10 mL has been toxic in children, and serious cases include liver failure. Topically, clove causes burning, contact dermatitis, irritation, and mouth ulcers in some users.
Wormwood contains thujone, a neurotoxin: medicinal doses can cause muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and in rare cases seizures, kidney damage, and brain damage. Green rooibos is generally well tolerated as a beverage, but large long-term doses may cause liver damage in susceptible people.
Green black walnut's human safety data are limited; the leaf, bark, and hull contain tannins that can cause stomach upset and skin irritation, and tree nuts can trigger allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.

The most serious concern is clove's effect on blood sugar control: clove extracts may lower blood glucose levels, which means if you're taking insulin or diabetes medications, you could be at increased risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) and may need dosing adjustments.

Clove also appears to slow how your liver breaks down several classes of drugs metabolized by liver enzymes (CYP2D6, CYP1A2, CYP3A4, and CYP2C9 substrates), which could raise their levels in your bloodstream. Additionally, clove may theoretically increase bleeding risk with blood thinners (anticoagulants) or antiplatelet drugs, and could increase the absorption and side effects of topical ibuprofen.
Green rooibos tea carries its own enzyme-inhibition interactions: it may increase the effects of drugs broken down by CYP2C19, CYP1A2, CYP2D6, CYP2C9, and CYP3A4. It also interacts with ACE inhibitors (blood pressure drugs) and atorvastatin (a cholesterol medication), potentially raising their levels.
Wormwood may interfere with anticonvulsant medications used for seizure control.

Clove
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, concomitant use of clove extracts with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Clinical and laboratory research suggest that polyphenol extracts from clove flower buds might lower blood glucose levels. Dosing adjustments for insulin or oral hypoglycemic agents may be necessary when taken with clove. Monitor blood glucose levels closely.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, concomitant use of clove may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
In vitro research shows that eugenol, the principal constituent of clove, can inhibit CYP1A2 in a dose-dependent manner,. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 2C9 (Cyp2C9) Substrates
Theoretically, concomitant use of clove may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.
In vitro research shows that eugenol, the principal constituent of clove, inhibits CYP2C9 in a dose-dependent manner. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates
Theoretically, concomitant use of clove may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, clove oil may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Laboratory research suggests that eugenol, a constituent of clove, has antiplatelet activity. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Ibuprofen (Advil, Others)
Theoretically, topical application of clove oil with ibuprofen might increase the absorption and side effects of topical ibuprofen.
Laboratory research shows that topical application of clove oil increases the absorption of topical ibuprofen. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Green Rooibos Tea
Ace Inhibitors (Aceis)
Theoretically, taking rooibos with ACEIs may increase the therapeutic and adverse effects of ACEIs.
Clinical research in healthy adults shows that taking a single dose of rooibos tea, 400 mL orally, inhibits angiotensin-converting enzyme activity.
Atorvastatin (Lipitor)
Theoretically, taking rooibos with atorvastatin may increase the therapeutic and adverse effects of atorvastatin.
Animal research shows that consuming green rooibos extract with atorvastatin daily for 3 weeks increases the maximum plasma concentration of atorvastatin by 6-fold and reduces the clearance of atorvastatin.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, taking rooibos with CYP1A2 substrates may increase the effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that the methanol extract of rooibos leaves and stems inhibits CYP1A2 enzyme activity.
Cytochrome P450 2C19 (Cyp2C19) Substrates
Theoretically, taking rooibos with CYP2C19 substrates may increase the effects of CYP2C19 substrates.
In vitro research shows that the methanol extract of rooibos leaves and stems strongly inhibits CYP2C19 enzyme activity.
Cytochrome P450 2C9 (Cyp2C9) Substrates
Theoretically, taking rooibos with CYP2C9 substrates may increase the effects of CYP2C9 substrates.
In vitro research shows that the methanol extract of rooibos leaves and stems inhibits CYP2C9 enzyme activity.
Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates
Theoretically, taking rooibos with CYP2D6 substrates may increase the effects of CYP2D6 substrates.
In vitro research shows that the methanol extract of rooibos leaves and stems inhibits CYP2D6 enzyme activity.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, taking rooibos with CYP3A4 substrates may increase the effects of CYP3A4 substrates.

Wormwood
Anticonvulsants
Theoretically, taking wormwood might interfere with the effects of anticonvulsant drugs.
