Amphetamine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Rooibos interacts with.

Theoretically, taking rooibos with CYP2D6 substrates may increase the effects of CYP2D6 substrates.
In vitro research shows that the methanol extract of rooibos leaves and stems inhibits CYP2D6 enzyme activity.

Here's the gist with rooibos and your amphetamine. Part of how your body clears amphetamine runs through a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. Lab studies (using a concentrated rooibos extract, not actual tea) hint that rooibos might slow this enzyme down a bit. In theory, that could let a little more amphetamine linger in your system, nudging up its usual effects, things like a faster heartbeat, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, reduced appetite, or feeling wired.

I want to be honest, though: this is very early, test-tube level evidence, not something proven in people. A regular cup or two of rooibos tea is unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated extracts or supplements are the bigger question mark. If you go that route, give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up first.

What Is Amphetamine Used For?

Brand names: Dyanavel XR, Adensys XR-ODT, Mydayis, Adzenys ER

Amphetamine treats Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in patients 6 years and older. Adzenys XR-ODT, Dyanavel XR, and the amphetamine extended-release orally disintegrating tablet formulations are specifically approved for ADHD in this age group.

Amphetamine Sulfate tablets and Evekeo (amphetamine sulfate tablets) are also approved for narcolepsy (a sleep disorder causing uncontrollable daytime sleepiness) and as a short-term aid in a calorie-restricted weight-loss program for exogenous obesity (weight gain from external factors like overeating) in patients who have not responded to other approaches.
