Flurbiprofen falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Rooibos interacts with.

Theoretically, taking rooibos with CYP2C9 substrates may increase the effects of CYP2C9 substrates.
In vitro research shows that the methanol extract of rooibos leaves and stems inhibits CYP2C9 enzyme activity.

Here's the gist for flurbiprofen: your liver uses an enzyme called CYP2C9 to break this medicine down and clear it out. In lab dish experiments, a concentrated rooibos extract slowed that same enzyme. If that happened in real life, flurbiprofen could linger a bit longer and its effects, both good and bad, could be slightly stronger. With an NSAID like this, that mostly means a higher chance of stomach upset, heartburn, or in some cases stomach irritation or bleeding.

I want to be honest about the evidence though. This is only a theoretical concern based on test-tube work, and a cup or two of rooibos tea is very unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated rooibos supplements are the bigger question mark, so check with your pharmacist before using those.

What Is Flurbiprofen Used For?

Flurbiprofen tablets (sold as Flurbiprofen and Lurbiro) are used to relieve the pain, swelling, and stiffness of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.

Flurbiprofen Sodium eye drops are a separate product used during eye surgery — specifically to keep the pupil from constricting (getting smaller) while the procedure is underway. This use applies only to the ophthalmic (eye drop) form.
