Doxorubicin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Rooibos interacts with.

Theoretically, taking rooibos with CYP3A4 substrates may increase the effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that the methanol extract of rooibos leaves and stems strongly inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme activity.

Here's the gist with rooibos and doxorubicin. Your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help process this chemo drug. In test-tube studies, concentrated rooibos extract appeared to block that enzyme. If that happened in people, doxorubicin could clear more slowly and build up, which in theory might mean stronger effects and a higher chance of side effects like nausea, mouth sores, low blood counts, or heart strain.

The big caveat: this is only lab data, not proven in humans, and the strongest signal came from concentrated extracts rather than a regular cup of tea. Still, because doxorubicin is potent and timed carefully by your cancer team, I'd play it safe. Mention any rooibos tea or supplements to your oncologist or pharmacist before mixing them.

Doxorubicin is used to treat a wide range of cancers. It is given as part of combination chemotherapy for women with breast cancer that has spread to the lymph nodes after surgery, and it is used for many other cancers — from blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma to solid tumors like bone and soft tissue sarcomas.
