Rooibos + Meloxicam
Meloxicam brand names: Mobic, Vivlodex, Qmiiz ODT, Anjeso.
Rooibos has a moderate interaction with Meloxicam. Theoretically, taking rooibos with CYP2C9 substrates may increase the effects of CYP2C9 substrates.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Meloxicam
Meloxicam falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Rooibos interacts with.
In vitro research shows that the methanol extract of rooibos leaves and stems inhibits CYP2C9 enzyme activity.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for meloxicam: your liver relies on an enzyme called CYP2C9 to clear this drug out of your body. Lab studies (using a concentrated rooibos extract, not regular tea) suggest rooibos might slow that enzyme down a bit. If it does, meloxicam could hang around longer and its effects could build up.
In real life, that might mean more of the usual NSAID side effects, like stomach upset, heartburn, fluid retention, or in rare cases higher risk of stomach bleeding or kidney strain. I want to be honest though: this is theoretical and based only on test-tube work, so a cup or two of rooibos tea is very unlikely to cause trouble. If you take concentrated rooibos supplements, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Questions About Rooibos or Meloxicam
These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. Each one covers Rooibos or Meloxicam, not necessarily both, but if one is close to what you were about to ask it will usually go further than a database entry can:

See Every Supplement That Interacts With Meloxicam
This page covers Rooibos only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Meloxicam page lists 113 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

By severity: 5 major · 81 moderate · 27 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Meloxicam page
“Most people take meloxicam (Mobic) daily for arthritis pain, which gives supplement interactions time to add up, so I read this list with real vigilance. Five of the 113 ingredients on file carry a major rating, and two are simply beer and wine, because alcohol plus any NSAID raises the odds of stomach bleeding.”

About Rooibos
What is Rooibos?
- Caffeine-free beverage
- Antioxidant support
- Heart health
- Blood sugar support
- Digestive upset
- General wellness
Rooibos is a caffeine-free herbal tea from South Africa that is rich in antioxidants and generally considered safe as a beverage. While lab and early studies suggest possible benefits for heart health, blood sugar, and inflammation, strong human evidence is lacking for most medical uses. Enjoy it as a tea, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated extracts for health reasons.
About Meloxicam
What Is Meloxicam Used For?
Brand names: Mobic, Vivlodex, Qmiiz ODT, Anjeso
Meloxicam is used to relieve the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Some oral forms are also used for juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.
Not every product is approved for every use. Meloxicam capsules are indicated only for osteoarthritis pain. The intravenous injections Qamzova and Xifyrm are used in adults for moderate-to-severe pain, alone or with non-NSAID pain relievers.

Meloxicam Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Meloxicam as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Rooibos — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
