Diclofenac Sodium falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Rooibos interacts with.

Theoretically, taking rooibos with CYP2C9 substrates may increase the effects of CYP2C9 substrates.
In vitro research shows that the methanol extract of rooibos leaves and stems inhibits CYP2C9 enzyme activity.

Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2C9 to break down diclofenac and clear it out. In test tube studies, a concentrated rooibos extract slowed that enzyme down. If that held true in people, diclofenac could hang around a little longer and its effects could be amplified. For an NSAID like this, that might mean more of the usual side effects, such as stomach upset, heartburn, a higher chance of irritation or bleeding in the gut, fluid retention, or rising blood pressure.

Here's the honest part: this is only a theoretical concern based on lab work, not real people, and a normal cup or two of rooibos tea almost certainly won't be a problem. If you're considering concentrated rooibos extracts, check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Diclofenac sodium topical gel is used to treat actinic keratoses (AK) — rough, scaly skin patches that form after years of sun exposure. These patches are considered precancerous, meaning they can develop into skin cancer if left untreated.

This is a topical gel, meaning it is applied directly to the skin over the affected area rather than taken by mouth. It belongs to the NSAID (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug) family.
