Here's the honest scoop on sipping rooibos tea while you're on morphine. The concern on file is that compounds in rooibos might block a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. If that enzyme slows down, a drug it normally clears could build up a bit, which in theory could nudge morphine's effects, like drowsiness, constipation, or slowed breathing, slightly higher.

But take a breath before you worry. This is based only on lab dish studies using concentrated rooibos extract, not real people drinking tea. Morphine also leans more on other pathways than CYP2D6, so a cup or two likely won't matter. If you're using strong rooibos extracts, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor rather than changing anything on your own.

Morphine is used to manage acute (short-term) and chronic (long-term) pain that is severe enough to need an opioid and that hasn't been adequately treated by other options. The higher-concentration liquid form is reserved for adults who are already opioid-tolerant — meaning their body is used to opioid medications.
