Here's the gist for your Aristada injections. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to help clear aripiprazole out of your body. Lab studies (in test tubes only) hint that concentrated rooibos extract might slow that enzyme down a little. If that happened in real life, more of the drug could linger, which in theory could nudge up side effects like drowsiness, restlessness, dizziness, or tremor.

Now the reassuring part: this is based on early lab work, not on people, so the real-world risk looks low. A regular cup or two of rooibos tea is very unlikely to matter. If you plan to use strong rooibos supplement capsules, just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up first.

Here's the situation with your long-acting aripiprazole shot (Aristada). Your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear this medication. In a lab dish, a concentrated rooibos extract slowed that enzyme down. If that happened in real life, more aripiprazole could linger in your system, which might mean more side effects like drowsiness, restlessness, dizziness, or muscle stiffness.

The good news: this is only a test-tube finding, not something seen in actual patients, and a normal cup of rooibos tea is very unlikely to cause trouble. I'd be more cautious with concentrated rooibos supplements. Either way, give your pharmacist or prescriber a quick heads-up before adding them, and don't change your injection schedule on your own.

Aripiprazole injection is used to treat schizophrenia and to provide maintenance treatment for bipolar I disorder in adults. Different injectable products carry these approvals.

Abilify Asimtufii is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults and as maintenance monotherapy for bipolar I disorder in adults. Aristada is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults, with Aristada Initio used specifically to help start Aristada therapy.
