Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: D-Ribose powder, 700 mg per capsule. D-Ribose is a five-carbon sugar (pentose) that your cells use to make energy.

The capsule also contains inactive ingredients — cellulose, silicon dioxide, microcrystalline cellulose, and magnesium stearate — which are standard fillers and binders.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Ribose's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: promotes energy production and cardiovascular function.
  • We looked for evidence on: Athletic performance, Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), Congestive heart failure (CHF), Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery, Coronary heart disease (CHD), Fibromyalgia — and 4 related terms.
  • The closest evidence on file: Ribose is rated "Possibly Ineffective" for Athletic performance (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Ribose is rated "Possibly Ineffective" for McArdle disease.
  • Also on file: Ribose is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Coronary heart disease (CHD), Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), Congestive heart failure (CHF), Fibromyalgia, and more.

The evidence on D-Ribose is mixed and limited. For athletic performance and McArdle disease (a genetic muscle disorder), the available evidence suggests it is possibly ineffective.

For restless legs syndrome, muscle soreness, congestive heart failure, and recovery after coronary artery bypass surgery, there isn't enough reliable evidence in our data to rate whether it works or doesn't.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Ribose is generally well tolerated in the short term — up to about one month — but long-term safety hasn't been well studied. The most common side effects when taken by mouth are diarrhea, gastrointestinal discomfort, headache, low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), and nausea.

Some people have also reported a hyperanxious feeling, lightheadedness, increased appetite, and mild anxiety; lowering the dose resolved these symptoms in at least one study. There isn't enough safety information to recommend D-Ribose during pregnancy or while breastfeeding — talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Ribose.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 86 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take insulin or any antidiabetes drug (like metformin, glyburide, or sulfonylureas), check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting D-Ribose. Both carry a Moderate risk of increased low blood sugar, and you may need to monitor your blood glucose more closely or adjust your doses.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

D-Ribose may be worth considering if you're interested in its potential energy-support role, but the evidence for most claimed uses is either limited or not favorable. The main caution is low blood sugar, especially if you take insulin or antidiabetes medications.

Before you start, check your exact medications with your own doctor or pharmacist, and don't stop or adjust any blood sugar medication on your own.

Formula

D-ribose is a naturally occurring sugar used by every cell in the body. It's an essential compound in energy metabolism that serves as a building block for adenosine triphosphate (ATP)- the boy's basic energy source. D-ribose is also the backbone of genetic material, DNA and RNA. Studies have shown that ribose supplementation can enhance cardiac energy levels and support cardiovascular metabolism. Further studies suggest that ribose plays a role in supporting energy recovery after exercise. Exercise increases free radical production in muscle tissue. Ribose may strengthen and support the body's crucial antioxidant defenses.

D-Ribose 700 mg by Nova Nutritions: Common Questions

Does D-Ribose 700 mg by Nova Nutritions interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, D-Ribose 700 mg has a known interaction with 86 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
D-Ribose 700 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Will D-Ribose give me more energy?
There isn't enough reliable evidence in our data to say whether D-Ribose boosts energy or endurance. For athletic performance specifically, the available evidence suggests it is possibly ineffective.
What are the main side effects I should watch for?
The most common side effects are diarrhea, gastrointestinal upset, headache, nausea, and low blood sugar. Some people report anxiety, lightheadedness, or increased appetite, though lowering the dose often helps. If you experience low blood sugar symptoms — shakiness, sweating, confusion — stop and contact your doctor.
Can I take D-Ribose while I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
There isn't enough safety information to recommend D-Ribose in pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you in these situations.
Can I take D-Ribose with my diabetes medication?
Possibly, but you need to check with your doctor first. Ribose can lower blood sugar on its own, so combined with antidiabetes drugs or insulin, you may be at higher risk for low blood sugar and might need dose adjustments or closer monitoring.
How long is it safe to use D-Ribose?
The evidence shows D-Ribose is generally well tolerated for up to about one month. Long-term safety hasn't been well studied, so talk with your pharmacist about how long you plan to use it.
What's in the capsule besides D-Ribose?
The capsule contains cellulose, silicon dioxide, microcrystalline cellulose, and magnesium stearate — standard inactive ingredients that help hold the supplement together.
