FloraMyces contains one active ingredient: Saccharomyces boulardii, a beneficial yeast that naturally lives in the gut. It's designed to help restore healthy gut flora, particularly when diarrhea or digestive upset has disrupted your microbiome.
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients — microcrystalline cellulose, vegetable stearate, and rice flour — which are standard fillers and binders that help hold the capsule together.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Saccharomyces boulardii is possibly effective for several types of diarrhea: rotaviral diarrhea, traveler's diarrhea, and diarrhea that follows antibiotic use. It's also possibly effective for preventing a serious intestinal condition called necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in at-risk newborns, for treating Clostridioides difficile infection (a stubborn bacterial diarrhea), and for helping clear Helicobacter pylori (a bacterium linked to stomach ulcers).
The evidence for these uses is promising but not yet conclusive — more research would strengthen these findings.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Saccharomyces boulardii is generally well tolerated by healthy adults. However, it should be avoided if you're critically ill, immunocompromised, or in intensive care, especially if you have a central line or are on broad-spectrum antibiotics — there are rare reports of the yeast entering the bloodstream (fungemia) in these vulnerable groups.
In rare cases, it may cause gastrointestinal complaints such as abdominal cramps, bloating, nausea, vomiting, or decreased appetite. Because reliable safety data are limited, talk with your doctor before starting it, particularly if you have any serious underlying illness or a compromised immune system.
