IBP Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking IBP against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of IBP by Health Concerns
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
IBP contains two active ingredients: taurine and MegaNatural BP Grape seed extract. Taurine is an amino acid found naturally in your body and in foods like meat and fish.
Grape seed extract is a concentrated form derived from grape seeds and contains compounds called proanthocyanidins. The product also contains several inactive ingredients—cellulose, silicon dioxide, stearic acid, and vegetable magnesium stearate—which function as binders, flow agents, and capsule material.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Evidence for taurine suggests it may be possibly effective for hepatitis and congestive heart failure (a condition in which the heart doesn't pump blood efficiently), but it appears possibly ineffective for obesity. For grape seed extract, the data shows it may be possibly effective for chronic venous insufficiency (a condition affecting blood flow in the legs), but it appears possibly ineffective for chemotherapy-related nausea, hay fever, and obesity.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Taurine is generally well tolerated in typical doses for up to one year. The most common side effects are constipation, diarrhea, and indigestion.
Rare serious effects include allergic reactions—particularly in people with a history of allergies to sulfonamides or sulfites—and case reports of cardiovascular effects, though these involved energy drinks with multiple ingredients, so it's unclear if taurine alone was responsible. Long-term safety beyond one year is less certain, and supplement doses haven't been studied as thoroughly as food sources.
Grape seed extract is also generally well tolerated. Common side effects include abdominal pain, diarrhea, dry mouth, indigestion, headache, joint pain, and nausea.
Anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction) to grape skin is rare. The safety notes advise caution with concentrated grape supplements during pregnancy due to limited data, and there isn't enough information on breastfeeding safety with supplements.
Both ingredients are rated Likely Safe in pregnancy and lactation, though the grape safety note recommends avoiding concentrated supplements during pregnancy.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking IBP, double-check these medication types with your pharmacist: blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (Moderate risk of increased bleeding), medications your liver processes via CYP3A4, CYP2D6, CYP1A2, or CYP2E1 pathways (Moderate), blood pressure medications (Moderate), and lithium (Moderate). If you take cyclosporine or midazolam, those need a separate review as well.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
IBP may be worth considering if you're interested in support for heart health or circulation, but the grape seed extract carries multiple medication interactions you need to check first—especially if you take blood thinners, heart medications, or drugs processed through your liver. Talk with your pharmacist about your prescriptions before starting; if you take lithium or blood pressure medications, mention those too.

IBP by Health Concerns Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
IBP by Health Concerns contains two active ingredients, and one of them—MegaNatural BP Grape seed extract—has documented interactions with a range of medications.
The most serious concern is with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (such as warfarin, aspirin, and clopidogrel): grape seed extract may increase bleeding risk by interfering with how your blood clots.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Grape seed extract also affects several medications that your liver processes. It may reduce levels of CYP1A2 substrates (including phenacetin) and theoretically increase levels of CYP2D6 and CYP2E1 substrates—meaning some drugs could become less or more potent in your system.
The interaction with CYP3A4 substrates is unclear: evidence suggests grape seed extract could go either way, making it unpredictable. Additionally, if you take cyclosporine (an immunosuppressant), grape seed extract may reduce its absorption by up to 30%, and it might decrease midazolam (a sedative) effectiveness with long-term use.
Taurine, the other active ingredient, interacts with blood pressure medications (antihypertensives)—it may lower your blood pressure further—and with lithium, a mood stabilizer; taurine might reduce lithium excretion and raise its levels in your blood.
Alone, taurine has no interactions documented beyond antihypertensives and lithium. Altogether, these interactions span 1,015 individual medications.
Use the medication checker on this page to verify your prescriptions before starting.

For each ingredient in IBP with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
MegaNatural BP Grape seed extract
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, grape extracts may have antiplatelet effects and may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro evidence suggests that grape extracts might decrease platelet aggregation.
Cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune)
Ingesting grape juice with cyclosporine can reduce cyclosporine absorption.
A small pharmacokinetic study in healthy young adults shows that intake of purple grape juice 200 mL along with cyclosporine can decrease the absorption of cyclosporine by up to 30% when compared with water. Separate doses of grape juice and cyclosporine by at least 2 hours to avoid this interaction.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, grape juice might reduce the levels of CYP1A2 substrates.
A small pharmacokinetic study in healthy adults shows that ingestion of 200 mL of grape juice decreases phenacetin plasma levels. This is thought to be due to induction of CYP1A2.
Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates
Theoretically, grape seed extract may increase the levels of CYP2D6 substrates.
In vitro evidence suggests that grape seed extract might inhibit CYP2D6 enzymes. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 2E1 (Cyp2E1) Substrates
Theoretically, grape seed extract might increase the levels of CYP2E1 substrates.
In vitro and animal research suggests that grape seed proanthocyanidin extract inhibits CYP2E1 enzymes. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
It is unclear if grape seed extract inhibits or induces CYP3A4; research is conflicting.
In vitro evidence suggests that grape seed extract might inhibit CYP3A4 enzymes. However, evidence from animal research shows that grape seed extract may induce CYP3A4 in the liver. So far, these interactions have not been reported in humans.
Midazolam (Versed)
Theoretically, long-term intake of grape seed extract might decrease the effects of midazolam.
Animal research shows that subchronic ingestions of grape seed extract can increase the elimination of intravenous midazolam by increasing hepatic CYP3A4 activity. Single doses of grape seed extract do not appear to affect midazolam elimination.
Phenacetin
Grape juice might decrease phenacetin absorption.
A small pharmacokinetic study in healthy adults shows that ingestion of 200 mL of grape juice decreases phenacetin plasma levels. This is thought to be due to induction of cytochrome P450 1A2 (CYP1A2).
Cytochrome P450 2C9 (Cyp2C9) Substrates
It is unclear if grape juice or grape seed extract inhibits CYP2C9; research is conflicting.
In vitro evidence shows that grape seed extract or grape juice might inhibit CYP2C9 enzymes. However, a small pharmacokinetic study in healthy adults shows that drinking 8 ounces of grape juice once does not affect the clearance of flurbiprofen, a probe-drug for CYP2C9 metabolism. The effects of continued grape juice consumption are unclear.
Taurine
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, taurine might increase the risk of hypotension when taken with antihypertensive drugs.
Some clinical evidence suggests that taurine can reduce both systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
Lithium
Theoretically, taurine might reduce excretion and increase plasma levels of lithium.
Taurine is thought to have diuretic properties, which might reduce the excretion of lithium.
