Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 2 of its 2 active ingredients.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product has 2 active ingredients: full spectrum hemp extract and cannabinoid. Full spectrum hemp extract contains a range of compounds from the hemp plant and is the primary active component here.

The cannabinoid is also present, though we hold no detailed data for it. The product is delivered as a liquid in a natural mint flavor, with MCT oil (a coconut-derived fat) as an inactive carrier.

There are no other inactive fillers listed.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Hemp product and its label doesn't state a use — see Hemp's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for full spectrum hemp extract in this product isn't established for the conditions we checked. For constipation, atopic dermatitis (eczema), and familial hypercholesterolemia (a genetic cholesterol condition), the data we hold shows insufficient reliable evidence to rate whether it works.

That means research is either limited or mixed—not that it doesn't work, but that we can't yet say it does based on current studies.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Hemp seed foods are generally well tolerated, but concentrated extracts like this one are less studied, so caution is warranted. At typical doses, hemp products are well tolerated orally.

Rare serious side effects have been reported, including anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction), heart rhythm problems (long QT syndrome and torsades de pointes), and fainting. Allergy to hemp seed itself is uncommon but possible—cases of hives, facial swelling, shortness of breath, and anaphylaxis have been documented.

There's also one case report of elevated liver enzymes and hepatitis in a young child given high-dose hemp extract for seizures. Pregnancy and lactation safety data isn't on file for this ingredient, so there isn't enough information to know either way.

Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?

  • For scale: 939 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before you take this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on hormone therapy (estrogens), blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs, blood pressure medications (ACE inhibitors or other types), or drugs processed through your liver. The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

This hemp oil may be worth considering if you're looking for a full spectrum extract, but the evidence for specific health claims isn't established yet in the data we hold. If you take hormone therapy, blood thinners, blood pressure medications, or drugs metabolized by your liver, you'll want to check your exact prescriptions with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.

Estrogens

Theoretically, hemp might interfere with hormone therapy due to its estrogenic effects.
In an ovariectomized animal model, a diet containing hemp seed 1%, 2%, or 10% resulted in normalized plasma levels of 17-beta-estradiol. The mechanism of action for this effect is unclear.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Ace Inhibitors (Aceis)

Theoretically, consuming hemp seed protein isolate with ACE inhibitors might have additive effects and increase the risk of hypotension.
Hemp seed protein hydrolysate has shown ACE inhibitor-like effects in a hypertensive animal model. However, hempseed oil consumption does not seem to reduce blood pressure in humans. Until more is known, monitor blood pressure and potassium levels.

Likelihood Unlikely Evidence D
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Theoretically, hemp seed might increase the risk of bleeding when used concomitantly with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
In animal research, hemp seed at 5% of the diet inhibits platelet aggregation in vitro. However, in human research, taking hemp seed oil 2 grams daily for 12 weeks does not inhibit the aggregation of platelets in vitro.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Antihypertensive Drugs

Theoretically, hemp seed protein may have additive effects with antihypertensive drugs.
In a hypertensive animal model, hemp seed protein hydrolysate reduced systolic blood pressure by a mechanism possibly involving the inhibition of renin and angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) activities. However, there was no effect of hemp seed protein on blood pressure in normotensive animals. Furthermore, hempseed oil consumption does not seem to reduce blood pressure in humans.

Likelihood Unlikely Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates

Theoretically, hemp might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that hemp induces CYP1A2 enzymes.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates

Theoretically, hemp might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that hemp induces CYP3A4 enzymes.

Ideal CBD Hemp Oil Natural Mint by Barlean's: Common Questions

Does Ideal CBD Hemp Oil Natural Mint by Barlean's interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Ideal CBD Hemp Oil Natural Mint has a known interaction with 938 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Ideal CBD Hemp Oil Natural Mint contains 2 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take this if I'm on blood thinner medication?
Hemp has a documented Minor-level interaction with blood thinners. Animal research suggests hemp seed might slow clot formation, but human studies at typical doses haven't shown this effect—so the real-world risk is unclear. Don't start this product without checking with your doctor or pharmacist first, especially if bleeding risk matters to you.
What are the side effects?
Most people tolerate hemp products well. Rare serious side effects include anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction), heart rhythm problems, and fainting. Allergy to hemp seed itself is uncommon but can cause hives, facial swelling, and breathing trouble. One case report documented liver enzyme changes in a child given very high doses for seizures.
Is it safe to take while pregnant or breastfeeding?
We don't have safety data on file for this ingredient during pregnancy or lactation. There isn't enough information to know either way, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.
Does this actually work for anything?
We don't have reliable evidence that it works for the conditions we checked—constipation, eczema, or high cholesterol. That doesn't mean it won't help, just that current research is too limited or mixed for us to say it does.
What's the difference between hemp seed and the extract in this product?
Hemp seed foods are generally well tolerated, but this product is a concentrated extract, which is much less studied. Concentrated extracts carry more uncertainty about safety than food amounts do.
