MaxBiotic 4B Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Karuna
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking MaxBiotic 4B against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of MaxBiotic 4B by Karuna
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
MaxBiotic 4B contains 6 ingredients total. The active ingredients are four live probiotic bacteria strains — Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus helveticus, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Streptococcus thermophilus — plus a proprietary blend combining these species.
These are beneficial microorganisms intended to support digestive and intestinal health. The remaining ingredients are inactive — they're fillers and binders like microcrystalline cellulose and pectin that hold the tablet together.
Turmeric is also listed as an inactive ingredient in this formulation.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for MaxBiotic 4B's individual strains is mixed and incomplete. Lactobacillus acidophilus is rated possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), antibiotic-associated diarrhea, Helicobacter pylori infection, and bacterial vaginosis, though the data aren't conclusive.
Bifidobacterium bifidum is also possibly effective for IBS and possibly effective for respiratory tract infections. For most other conditions listed in our data — including allergic rhinitis, cognitive function, depression, constipation, and diabetes — the evidence is insufficient to say whether these strains work.
No effectiveness rating exists for the whole product formula, only for individual strains.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
These probiotic strains are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. The most common side effects reported with probiotic use are mild gastrointestinal ones — bloating, gas, abdominal discomfort, and diarrhea — but these occur infrequently.
There is a theoretical concern with any live probiotic that in rare cases, the bacteria might cause infection in patients who are severely ill, have weakened immune systems, or have certain types of catheters in place; however, such cases are uncommon in otherwise healthy people. For pregnancy, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum are both rated possibly safe, and Streptococcus thermophilus is also rated possibly safe.
Data on Lactobacillus helveticus during pregnancy and lactation aren't on file. Given the limited safety information, it's wise to talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a weakened immune system.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antibiotic drugs, separate them from MaxBiotic 4B — don't take them at the same time. Antibiotics can kill the live bacteria in this probiotic and make it less effective.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist how many hours apart to space them. If you're immunocompromised or seriously ill, talk with your healthcare provider before starting.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
MaxBiotic 4B is a multi-strain probiotic that may help with certain digestive conditions like IBS and antibiotic-associated diarrhea, though the evidence isn't strong for all uses. The main thing to watch for is antibiotic timing — if you're taking antibiotics, space them several hours away from this product so the antibiotics don't kill off the beneficial bacteria.
If you're generally healthy, it's usually well tolerated, but if you have a weakened immune system or are pregnant, check with your doctor or pharmacist first.

MaxBiotic 4B by Karuna Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
MaxBiotic 4B by Karuna contains four probiotic bacteria strains, three of which have documented interactions with medications.
Through its Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus helveticus, and Bifidobacterium bifidum content, this product may interact with antibiotic drugs. Since these probiotics contain live organisms, taking antibiotics at the same time might kill a significant number of them and reduce the probiotic's effectiveness.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Altogether, these interactions span 182 individual medications. The interaction is rated Moderate in severity — meaning the effect could be clinically meaningful and is worth planning around, but it's not an emergency-level concern.
The solution is straightforward: separate when you take your antibiotics from when you take this probiotic. Your doctor or pharmacist can help you time the doses properly.
We couldn't check two of the probiotic strains in this formula — Lactobacillus plantarum and Lactobacillus rhamnosus — because we hold no interaction data for them. Streptococcus thermophilus, the fifth strain, has no interactions documented in our data.
That doesn't mean none exist, only that we found none in our current records.
Before you start MaxBiotic 4B, run your exact medications through the interaction checker on this page.
