Probiotic Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by youtheory
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Probiotic against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Probiotic by youtheory
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
youtheory Probiotic Powder contains five active ingredients: a proprietary blend of probiotics (beneficial bacteria), plus fructooligosaccharides and xylo-oligosaccharides (both prebiotics — fibers that feed friendly bacteria), and two additional Bacillus strains. The two named probiotics are Bacillus coagulans and Bacillus subtilis, both live organisms designed to support digestive health.
The product also includes inactive ingredients (maltodextrin and silicon dioxide) as fillers and flow agents.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Bacillus coagulans is rated possibly effective for constipation and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Bacillus subtilis is rated possibly effective for antibiotic-associated diarrhea.
For constipation with B. subtilis, and for other claimed uses like athletic performance, cancer, or fatty liver disease, the evidence isn't established in our data. Fructooligosaccharides show insufficient evidence for osteoporosis, constipation, diabetes, travelers' diarrhea, and high cholesterol.
The effectiveness of Xylo-oligosaccharides and Bacillus clausii isn't rated in the data we hold.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Fructooligosaccharides are generally well tolerated at food levels but can cause gas, bloating, and abdominal pain, especially at higher doses. A meta-analysis of clinical trials found no increase in these side effects at doses up to 15 grams daily compared to placebo.
Bacillus coagulans and Bacillus subtilis are generally well tolerated in healthy adults, but safety data is limited and quality varies by product. Rare cases of infection (bacteremia, meningitis) have been reported in severely ill or immunocompromised patients taking live Bacillus preparations.
One headache and rare cases of diarrhea were reported in trials. Pregnancy and lactation data is not on file for any ingredient — talk with your doctor about whether this product is right for you during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
You must separate doses of this probiotic from any antibiotic drugs. Take them several hours apart, and ask your pharmacist for the best timing with your specific antibiotic.
This affects a large number of antibiotics (182 medications overall), so do not take them together.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This probiotic may help with constipation and IBS if the Bacillus strains work for you, and B. subtilis might help with diarrhea after antibiotics. The biggest caution is antibiotic use — you'll need to space doses apart.
If you're healthy with a normal immune system, it's generally well tolerated, though some people notice gas or bloating. Check your exact medications and health history with your own doctor or pharmacist before starting.

Probiotic by youtheory Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
youtheory Probiotic Powder interacts with antibiotic drugs through its Bacillus coagulans and Bacillus subtilis content.
Both of these live bacterial strains may lose effectiveness if you take them at the same time as antibiotics, since the antibiotics can kill the probiotic organisms before they establish themselves. Altogether, these interactions span 182 individual medications.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The concern is Moderate severity for both strains. If you're on antibiotics, separate your doses — take your antibiotic as prescribed, then wait several hours (or follow your doctor's timing) before taking this probiotic.
Your doctor or pharmacist can help you space them safely.
Fructooligosaccharides (a prebiotic fiber in the blend) has no documented interactions. We couldn't check Xylo-oligosaccharides and Bacillus clausii against our database, so their interaction profiles are unknown.

Bacillus coagulans MTCC-5856
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking antibiotics with Bacillus coagulans might decrease the effectiveness of B. coagulans.
B. coagulans preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. coagulans preparations by at least two hours.
Bacillus subtilis (MTCC 5981)
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Bacillus subtilis with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. subtilis.
Since B. subtilis preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. subtilis preparations by at least 2 hours.
